Canadian Ham Lookup
Developed by VA3HKW / Don Millette

Last updated: September 7, 2026

Privacy summary: Canadian Ham Lookup does not require a user account and the developer does not collect, sell, rent, or use personal user information for advertising or analytics. Callsign data comes from the public Canadian amateur radio database maintained by Innovation, Science and Economic Development Canada (ISED). Optional QSO logbook information is stored locally on the user's device unless the user chooses to export or share it.

1. Information Collected About App Users

Canadian Ham Lookup does not collect personal information about the person using the application. The developer does not operate an analytics platform, advertising network, user-tracking service, or user-profile database for this app.

The app does not intentionally collect advertising identifiers, precise location, contact lists, photos, messages, browsing history, or other personal information from the user's device.

2. Canadian Amateur Radio Callsign Information

Canadian Ham Lookup uses publicly available Canadian amateur radio licence information published by Innovation, Science and Economic Development Canada (ISED). This public database may contain information such as:

This information is not collected from the app user. It is obtained from the public ISED amateur radio database and is used to perform callsign lookups.

3. Public Mailing Address / SHOW ADDRESS Feature

Canadian Ham Lookup normally displays only basic callsign information such as name, city, province or territory, and amateur radio qualifications.

When a public mailing address is present in the ISED record, the user may choose to reveal it by selecting the SHOW ADDRESS option. The mailing address remains hidden by default and is displayed only when specifically requested.

Public mailing addresses displayed by the app originate from the ISED amateur radio database. Canadian Ham Lookup does not independently collect, verify, or publish these addresses.

Mailing addresses are not automatically spoken by the app and are not automatically added to the app's QSO logbook or ADIF export.

4. Bundled and Downloaded ISED Database

A bundled copy of the public Canadian amateur radio callsign database may be included with the application so that callsign lookup remains available if the ISED service is temporarily unavailable.

Users may choose to update the local callsign database from the official ISED service. Database files are stored locally on the device for callsign lookup.

5. Microphone and Voice Callsign Entry

The app may request microphone permission when the user chooses to enter a callsign using voice input. Microphone access is initiated only when the user activates the voice callsign input feature.

Canadian Ham Lookup does not intentionally record, save, archive, or transmit microphone audio to the developer.

Voice recognition is provided by the Android speech recognition service installed or configured on the user's device. Depending on the device and selected speech recognition provider, spoken audio may be processed by that provider under its own terms and privacy policy.

6. Spoken Results and Text-to-Speech

The optional spoken-results and accessibility introduction features use the text-to-speech service installed on the user's Android device. Canadian Ham Lookup does not send spoken lookup results or accessibility prompts to the developer.

7. Accessibility Features

Canadian Ham Lookup includes optional accessibility features such as spoken instructions, spoken callsign results, voice callsign entry, and simplified controls. User preferences for these features may be stored locally on the device.

8. QSO Logbook Data

Canadian Ham Lookup includes an optional amateur radio QSO logbook. When the user chooses to add a contact to the log, the app may store information including:

QSO logbook information is stored locally in the app's private storage on the user's device. The developer does not automatically receive or collect these logbook records.

9. ADIF Export and Sharing

Users may choose to export their QSO logbook in ADIF format for use with services such as QRZ or other amateur radio logging software.

Exporting or sharing an ADIF file is initiated by the user. Canadian Ham Lookup does not automatically upload logbook information to QRZ, the developer, or any other third-party service.

Once the user chooses to share or upload an exported file to another application or service, that application or service may process the information according to its own privacy policy.

10. Internet Access

Internet access is used primarily to retrieve updates to the public ISED amateur callsign database. Canadian Ham Lookup does not use its own advertising, tracking, or analytics server.

11. USA Callsign Feature

A USA callsign option may appear in the application interface as a planned future feature. Unless and until that feature is implemented and explicitly enabled by the user, Canadian Ham Lookup does not download a United States callsign database.

12. Data Sharing and Sale

The developer does not sell user data and does not share user data with advertisers, data brokers, or marketing companies.

Information is transmitted to another application or service only when the user deliberately performs an action such as sharing an exported ADIF file or using a device-provided speech recognition service.

13. Data Retention and Deletion

Callsign database files, application preferences, and QSO logbook information are stored locally on the user's device.

Individual QSO records may be edited or deleted from within the application, and the logbook may be cleared by the user.

Removing Canadian Ham Lookup from the device will normally remove the application's private local data, subject to Android backup and restore features controlled by the user, device manufacturer, or platform provider.

14. Children's Privacy

Canadian Ham Lookup is not designed to collect personal information from children or from any other app user. The developer does not knowingly collect personal information from children through this application.

15. Security

Canadian Ham Lookup is designed to minimize collection of user information. Optional logbook data is stored locally rather than on a developer-operated account or cloud service.

16. Changes to This Privacy Policy

This privacy policy may be updated when Canadian Ham Lookup gains new features or when privacy requirements change. The current version of this policy will be published at this web address.

17. Privacy Contact

Privacy questions regarding Canadian Ham Lookup may be directed to VA3HKW / Don Millette using the developer contact email shown on the Canadian Ham Lookup listing in Google Play.
